Suburban Chambers Foundation
Our Foundation is a fully qualified 501c(3) tax exempt foundation under IRS rules. Formed in 1981 to help our communities in their business charitable activities, the Foundation has a number of standing projects and activities.
- Vest A Cop -- Every police officer in Summit, New Providence and Berkeley Heights receives a $450 allowance towards their first bullet-proof vest. Replacement vests are part of the municipal uniform allowance. To date over 200 vests have been donated.
- Jo Ciullo Scholarship (Berkeley Heights) -- in honor of the late Jo Ciullo, the Berkeley Heights Chamber of Commerce awards a $1,000 scholarship to a local high school senior each year.
- Perry Root Scholarship (Summit) -- in honor of the late Summit retailer Perry Root, a $1,000 award is made to a graduating senior of Summit High School.
A new scholarship is the William B. Stampes Memorial Scholarship in recognition of Bill's dedication to the downtown and all of its merchants. - New Providence Civic Award -- an essay based competition on Citizenship for New Providence High School Seniors.
Fund Raisers for the Foundation include:
- Oldies Concert Fund Raiser -- a periodic concert event to raise funds for the Vest-A-Cop Project Member Contributions
- Members of the Chamber -- may contribute fully tax-exempt donations to the Foundation
